Life update #5—We need help!

Over the past three years, my wife and I rebuilt our lives in Koh Pha-ngan, Thailand, and developed a business with three complementary activities: a raw vegan Ice Cream Lounge, a Sauna, and a Solar & Electrical services business—alongside a long and costly personal health recovery on my side.
These projects are viable and already taking shape, but carrying all of the risks and expenses ourselves has nearly exhausted our financial buffer. I am now reaching out for support to bridge this final stretch and give these initiatives the time they need to fully take root. ♥️

2. Brief review

When we decided to move to Thailand at the end of 2022 and start afresh after I closed my 25-year-old business, kubus media, in Switzerland, I was facing a physically challenging situation. I was healing from an inguinal hernia that had caused neurological damage to my legs and severe hypofunction of the digestive tract, leaving me partially impaired.

I formally deregistered in Switzerland to focus on healing and starting fresh in Thailand, and to make this step possible, I chose to cash out my pension savings as part of a deliberate, all-in transition. 🙏

Today, nearly three years later, much has changed:

• My hernia is healed, and my health is fully restored. 💪
• My wife and I developed a new business centered around health and sustainability, spanning Solar & Electrical services, a raw vegan Ice Cream Lounge, and a Sauna with ice baths. 🫰

3. What we've created

1. We founded Love You More Co., Ltd.—"LOVE YOURSELF, LOVE EVERYTHING ELSE.":
   • Solar & Electrical services (together with two Thai electrician friends and a Swiss solar expert in Bangkok),
   • Ice Cream Lounge (currently in its soft opening phase),
   • Sauna (with construction about 80% completed).

While the Solar & Electrical business initially grew out of our own needs due to the fluctuating power delivery on the island, it has since developed into a service with a growing number of satisfied customers. In parallel, we fulfilled a long-standing dream by creating a raw-vegan "restaurant" (initially offering ice cream only, with a more comprehensive menu planned) and a small health-focused retreat with sauna and ice baths. Given our location at a major tourist attraction, the Khao raa Waterfall and Viewpoint Hike, these more stationary ventures presented themselves as a natural and almost self-evident next step.

2. In parallel, I have continued to develop Linux Audio Development—a long-term passion project aimed at making Linux more attractive for music production. This has already resulted in:
   • a comprehensive FAQ,
   • 22 interviews with developers,
   • 8 interviews with artists,
   • developers porting their software for Linux.

This is just the beginning; many more services, products and activities are planned, particularly for the restaurant. We will host events, and have an open-to-the-public roof terrace.

4. Where we stand now

Because my recovery took much longer than expected, we have now reached a point where, despite significant progress, our financial buffer is almost exhausted.

A personal note

Asking for help does not come naturally to me. I take responsibility seriously and do everything I can to avoid disappointing anyone or burdening others with my problems. I usually fight my way through challenges on my own or together with my wife, and I tend to choose the harder path if I believe it is the right one. This mindset is reflected everywhere in my life: choosing sustainability over convenience, riding the bicycle where a motorbike or car would be easier, committing to Open Source instead of proprietary alternatives, and supporting renewable energy, veganism, and other systems that I believe benefit everyone—not just myself.

I believe this character trait is the very reason my financial resources are now nearly exhausted. Guided by principle and generosity, I repeatedly chose to shoulder risks and costs myself—such as funding my recovery and surgery in Bangkok rather than relying on insurance.

Reaching out for support at this point is therefore not only a practical necessity, but also an important personal step for me. It is about learning to ask for help and, even more important, to accept it, instead of always pushing through at my own expense.

6. Equipment sale fundraiser

I have set negotiable prices without specifying the current market value of individual items. Feel free to make me an offer. I am open to discussion. I treat everything with respect and love, so all my belongings are in excellent condition. Some items are here with me in Thailand and others are with my mother and sisters in Basel, Switzerland. I will happily ship items to wherever you are.
