Why veganism is important

Many things that large parts of our society take for granted are built on the suffering of others.

Leather, wool, rare earths, dairy products, precious metals, zoos, meat - to name but a few - require the sacrifice of fair wages, freedom or even the lives of others.

Veganism helps individuals to come to terms with these important and often disturbing issues. In the context of such confrontation, our capacity for empathy tends to grow. This in turn increases the need for everyone to be well, not just "me".

Through this effect we can improve our world as a whole. On a small scale, such as providing services with empathy and understanding of other's needs, but also on a large scale, such as rethinking circumstances that we have long taken for granted, but which in many cases are neither smart nor sustainable.

That's why I think veganism is important.
